To provide mental and emotional health/wellness empowerment to the Black community as well as other highly disenfranchised communities who have limited access to services, by way of individual and group counseling, coaching, mentoring, skill-building, and resource provision.
Licensed Professional Counselor
Shawnnell Batiste is a Master's Level Mental Health Professional who is currently licensed as a Professional Counselor in Texas and Louisiana. At present, Shawnnell is serving many communities as an independent contractor with several organizations. She works with children and adults with developmental disorders, offers counseling for disruptive events through EAP programs and sees clients for Child Protective Services. Shawnnell has faithfully volunteered for the Loft Non-Profit organization as an Assistant Director and now serves on the board.
For over 19 years, Shawnnell has used her time and talents to serve at-risk youth, developmentally delayed or disabled children and adults, and the mentally ill. In 2014, she entered the world of behavioral health. She sought and continues to obtain ongoing education and now serves members in the community with autism, children in need of play therapy and families dealing with grief and trauma.
Choosing Empowerment has been growing since it's inception in 2015 and Shawnnell is eager to continue that growth through her presence in the community and her dedication to helping those who are chronically under-served. Our goal at Choosing Empowerment is to remove some of the barriers that prevent people from seeking help.
